OpenAI plans to combine ChatGPT, Codex, and its browser into one app. This new app will be for desktop computers. It aims to make the user experience simpler.
A spokesperson for OpenAI said Greg Brockman will temporarily oversee product development. Later, the head of applications, Sima Sima, will lead the sales team. This is in preparation for the new app's market launch, according to Reuters.
The announcement follows a Wall Street Journal report. The report stated Sima told employees they were spreading efforts too thin. She said, "We realized we were spreading ourselves too thin across too many apps and tech stacks. We need to simplify our efforts."
She added, "This distraction was slowing us down. It made it harder to reach the quality level we want."
Company leaders hope putting OpenAI's tools into one app will help. It may save resources. OpenAI faces growing competition from Anthropic.
Earlier this year, OpenAI launched a standalone desktop version of its Codex tool. This was to increase its presence in the AI code generation market.
