Samsung revealed all details and the launch date for its budget phone, the Galaxy A27. The phone will be available from July 3rd. It comes in black, dark blue, light blue, light pink, and mint green. In the US, it starts selling on July 14th for $349.99.
The Galaxy A27 costs $50 more than its predecessor, the Galaxy A26. However, this price increase does not come with better features. This is according to a report by Android Police, a tech news site.
In fact, the new phone has some downgrades compared to the previous model. Samsung equipped the Galaxy A27 with a 12MP front camera. It also has a 5MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. The Galaxy A26 had a 13MP front camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The 2MP macro camera stayed the same.
The Galaxy A27 is also less water-resistant than its predecessor. It has an IP64 rating, while the Galaxy A26 had an IP67 rating. An IP67 rating means the Galaxy A26 can be submerged in water up to 1 meter deep. The Galaxy A27 can only resist water splashes.
Like the Galaxy A26, the Galaxy A27 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. The battery capacity is 5,000 mAh.
For improvements, the Galaxy A27 has a faster processor: the Snapdragon Gen 3. The Galaxy A26 used Samsung's Exynos 1380 processor.
Price Hikes Ahead
Consumers must adapt to a new reality in the electronics market. They may have to pay more for fewer features. This is due to a shortage of RAM chips affecting the electronics industry.
As a sign of this trend, Apple announced price increases for some MacBooks and iPads. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, said they are doing their best to ease cost increases. He also said they tried to protect customers, but the situation is no longer sustainable.
This statement is similar to what Perry Fracktic, CEO of Commodore, said recently. He blamed the RAM shortage for the increased price of the Callback 8020 phone.
Commodore offered customers a discount. They could buy used high-speed memory chips that passed stress tests. This is changing the idea of budget phones. It is becoming hard to keep prices low while offering normal features. The Galaxy A27 is one of the first phones clearly showing these changes.
