Samsung and Apple are set for a new race in the foldable phone market this year. Expectations point to a direct clash between Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Apple's first foldable iPhone, possibly called the iPhone Ultra.
All Eyes on Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
Based on many leaks and reports, Samsung plans to launch two new Fold series phones this year: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The first model will have a large foldable design, like Apple's expected foldable iPhone. The "Ultra" version is the true successor to last year's popular Galaxy Z Fold 7. This report comes from "phonearena" and was seen by "Arabian Business".
In a recent poll on the most anticipated foldable phones this year, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra won over 28% of the votes. It took first place among the choices.
This is not surprising given the success of the Fold 7. Leaks suggest the new model will have a smaller front camera. It will also have a bigger 5000 mAh battery. Plus, the crease on the foldable screen might be less noticeable.
For comparison, the Fold 7 had a 4400 mAh battery.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Also Beats Foldable iPhone
Interestingly, the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 also did better than the foldable iPhone in the same poll. Over 23% of voters chose it. Only 17% chose the expected Apple phone.
In third place were people not planning to buy any foldable phone this year. They made up over 22% of the votes.
About 9% of voters said they plan to buy a foldable phone from another company.
Apple Needs a Strong Start
Foldable phones have been around for years, but Apple is entering this market quite late.
Reports suggest Apple aimed for a foldable phone with no visible screen crease and a very durable body. However, recent leaks say these goals are not fully met yet.
If Apple's first foldable phone doesn't impress users, or if the new design isn't widely accepted, the company might rethink its strategy. They may need to make big changes for future generations.
Is It Worth the Wait?
Some experts think waiting might be best for those wanting Apple's foldable phone. It's the company's first of its kind. This means unexpected issues or challenges could arise.
For users planning to buy a foldable phone this year, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra seems the safer choice based on current expectations. Poll results also show many users prefer it even before its official launch.
